Web host upgrade = site freeze

We just got notified that our web host is upgrading some software on our server this weekend. One of the effects of this is that there will be a content freeze between Thursday, March 27th and Monday, March 31st. I will have to assume that this means that blog entries and comments and all message board posts that are made during that period will be lost on Monday. Therefore, I will not be posting anything during this coming weekend either here, IA on AI, or Post-Play'em. Also, please don't frustrate yourself by making a comment or posting on the message board as I can't guarantee that it will survive.

I hope this isn't frustrating and that all goes well. I'm sure I will have something to say come early next week - so remember to subscribe to the RSS feeds (I'm sure that part still works!).

Thanks for your patience and patronage!

Minor site redesign

I took a bit of time to tweak the site some. I had it set at a width of 700 pixels before (for the 800x600 crowd) but my stats have been saying that a very small sample of people are running less than 1024x768. I really wanted to use the extra real estate to put things like the blog headlines up. The width is now at 950.

Eventually, I will be modifying the blog templates to be more in line with the overall site. I'm not necessarily looking forward to that project, however.

Let me know if you have any problems with the contents of the new pages. If you are a regular visitor to Intrinsic Algorithm, I would also love your feedback on the new look.

Thanks!

Omaha Game Dev. Assoc. News Blog

As part of our association with the Omaha Game Developers Association, I just launched a news blog for the group. On there, you can find announcements, news and updates about the group as a whole or about the individual members. Members who have attended a meeting will have author permissions (should they choose to use them) so you will also be able to find updates on what they are up to. If you are interested in the game development community in Omaha, check it out and remember to subscribe to the feed!

Info on my article in "AI Wisdom 4"

In case you are looking for information on my article about the "Multi-Axial Dynamic Threshold Fuzzy Decision Algorithm" in "AI Game Programming Wisdom 4", I have begun a page on the site to hold information about it. If you haven't bought the book yet... and you are an AI programmer... then what are you waiting for? There's a link to order the book from Amazon on the page.)

New postion as staff writer for AIGameDev.com

Well, we've been hinting at it for a while now - but we have made it official. Alex Champandard has decided to take me on staff at AIGameDev.com. For right now, I will be writing the Tuesday Discussion articles. I hope that my role there continues to increase. In the mean time, if you want the place to get theory, research, reviews, and news on game AI, AIGameDev.com has probably got it nailed down! Also, their forums are turning into an active discussion community for veterans and rookies alike.

I am honored to be working with Alex and with his site. Please check out what we have to offer... and don't be afraid to contribute!

Slides for "Serious Games Taxonomy"

Just as a follow-up, here's the slides from Ben Sawyer's lecture "Serious Games Taxonomy" (pdf file) from the GDC "Serious Games Summit". I put some brief notes about it in this post. It's 54 pages/slides long and there's a lot of great information in there about the the serious games space is expanding into many directions.
