Back from AIIDE and ready for GameX

I returned from AIIDE over the weekend. You can follow the posts of my observations and session notes on IA on AI with the tag AIIDE 2009.

I will be leaving on Thursday for GameX in Philly where I am giving a lecture with Kevin Dill on "The Art of Game AI". That's a fancy way of saying I'm covering things like multi-attribute utility theory, response curves, and weighted randoms.

Dave heading to AIIDE this year!

I am going to be making the trek westward to attend AIIDE in October. I was a little in shock with having to pay for my own conference pass what with the fact that I am getting into most of them for free as a speaker lately. Regardless, the lineup of invited speakers is absolutely superb this year and I couldn't afford to pass it up. They seriously went 5 for 5 on people I would love to listen to. The rest of the program has some fairly powerful stuff in it as well. What's more, I'm very much looking forward to spending some time with my colleagues in the evening. From what I've been told, AIIDE is a very pleasant, informative, and inspirational event.

No Kool-AIIDE for Me This Year...

Well, I had to push the decision back and back and back... but it looks like I won't be able to attend the AIIDE conference this year. I had been planning on doing it and was really looking forward to it as well. However, a combination of factors ranging from family to business (to the fact that my Cubs will probably will be in the World Series that week) are going to prevent me from attending.

Not only will I miss the tons of valuable material that is going to be presented there, I was looking forward to meeting and having conversations with a number of my peers. I will certainly see most of them at the GDC next March, though!
