Overview

We are looking for an individual who is ready to make the jump into being the go-to lead programmer in a small independent studio. We want someone who has been through the process and wants to have a hand in putting together a strong, agile development team.

The Lead Programmer position will also be an assistant to the President & Lead Designer - not simply as a programmer, but as a visionary. This opportunity is more than just being a programmer or a technical lead for a company or a team - it is about helping to craft that team and company in a hands-on way.

In short, this position will allow you to help create the studio that you have always wanted to work in. You will have your own future in your hands!

This position has the potential for advancement. As the company grows, a successful candidate will be eligible for promotion to VP of Development and be responsible for multiple development teams .

Responsibilities

• Guide the construction of initial team staffing estimates
• Assist in the recruitment, interview and selection of team members
• Analyze and recommend selection of development hardware and software
• Implement development methodologies, processes and standards
• Establish content creation pipeline for the project
• Report directly to the President & Lead Designer
• Convey the vision of the company to the team
• Provide the team with guidance and leadership on a day-to-day basis
• Delegate project responsibilities effectively.
• Provide critical analysis of studio practices

Game Development History

• 2+ shipped titles - including work through the complete development cycle
• 1+ shipped titles for the PC
• 1+ shipped titles as a development lead or senior programmer

Required Technical Skills

• 5+ years game programming
• 5+ years C++ and currently considered "expert level"
• High level of familiarity with development tools (e.g. Maya, Bink, Miles)
• Familiarity with standard game development practices

Personal Skills

• Small team management experience
• Self-motivated, focused and efficient
• Good communication skills
• Attention to detail in both technical and non-technical areas
• Enthusiasm and vision for game development

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with art production techniques
• AI development experience
• Experience with "agile development" and "extreme programming" techniques
